Our Veterinarians
DR HUGH WACKETT BVSc (Owner)
Hugh graduated from Melbourne University in 1989. He worked for 3 years in a mixed practice in North Eastern Victoria and then spent a year working in England. He enjoys a balance between medicine and surgery.
He currently has two cats ay home, a DSH called Beena and a DSH called Tux. The Wackett’s are a ‘Poodle’ family, having had poodles in the family for years. They also have a little Toy Poodle named Lil.
Hugh and his wife are parents to two boys and a girl.
DR ZORAN MILASINOVICH BSc BVSc (Owner)
Zoran graduated from Pretoria University (South Africa) in 1998, working in small animal practice before emigrating to Australia in 2001. He originally joined Glen Huntly Rd Vet Clinic and worked there until 2004 before setting up and running a small animal practice in the South Eastern suburbs for 17 years. He has returned to become Hugh’s new business partner and enjoys both the medical and surgical aspects of veterinary.
At home, Zoran is a servant to Snowbell, the factory-rescued domestic short haired cat, Jazz & Blondie, the hand reared Bishon/Shi Tzu/Maltese cross sisters and Boo, the hand reared domestic short haired cat, not to mention his wife and 2 daughters.
Zoran’s other interests include golf, the outdoors & cooking meals for family & friends.
DR ANNABELLE RODD B.Biomed, DVM
Annabelle graduated from The University of Melbourne in 2016. She started her career undertaking a small animal internship in a referral centre in Brisbane. She then moved to Glenhuntly Road Veterinary Clinic in 2018. She has a keen interest in both the surgical and medical aspects of veterinary medicine.
At home Annabelle has a lovable and energetic Golden Retriever named Frankie, who loves chasing balls and socialising at the park.
In her spare time, Annabelle enjoys spending her weekends catching up with friends and trying out new recipes in the kitchen. She often brings in sweet treats for the staff.
DR GIULIA CERONE B.Sc, DVM
Giulia graduated from The University of Melbourne in 2017. She then went on to complete a rotating internship at the Veterinary Referral Hospital where she stayed for a further 6 months after completion to gain further experience in the emergency setting. In 2019 she joined the team at the Glenhuntly Road Veterinary Clinic. Giulia has a particular interest in opthalmology but is also fond of both medicine and surgery.
Giulia grew up with rabbits, cockatiels and ducks as well as a cat and she now has a Maltese x Poodle named Sebastian.
Away from the clinic, Giulia enjoys travelling, baking, skiing and trying out new restaurants.
Our Vet Nurses
JENNY ALKERMADE
Jenny is our longest serving veterinary nurse. She takes immense pride in the presentation of our clinic and ensures that you are always greeted warmly. Outside of work Jenny volunteers for horse riding for the disabled.
Jenny and her husband also have two children, Steven and Sarah.
BRODIE MCCARTHY
Brodie joined the team at Glenhuntly Road Veterinary Clinic in 2010, having already work as a veterinary nurse for 2 years in Elsternwick. She completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2013. Brodie loves caring for all in-patients at the clinic but particularly enjoys caring for the geriatric feline patients.
At home Brodie has a gorgeous black and white DMH named Spooky.
She is an avid AFL fan barracking for Melbourne and you’ll quite often see her at a game whenever she gets a chance. In her spare time Brodie also enjoys bird watching, nature walks and catching up on the latest movies.
LAURA HANLON
Laura has worked at Glenhuntly Road Veterinary Clinic since 2011. Laura completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2013. She spent 3 months volunteering in South Africa at a wildlife sanctuary and has a keen interest in zoo animals.
Her favourite part of the job is surgical nursing and cat grooming. At home Laura has a very cute and cuddly Cavoodle named Willow. Willow loves spending the weekends playing with friends at the dog beach.
Laura has a keen interest in interior design and furniture upholstery and has completed a Diploma in Interior Design. Outside of work you will find Laura in the kitchen mastering new recipes or trying out the latest restaurants in Melbourne.
AIMEE SHEKLETON
Aimee is our Irish veterinary nurse who joined the Glenhuntly Road Veterinary Clinic in 2016. She graduated from Dundalk University, Ireland in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in both large and small Animal Veterinary Nursing.
After working as a veterinary nurse for four years at home, she left Ireland in 2015 to travel to Australia and loved Melbourne so much she decided to stay. Now she enjoys living by the beach and making the most of all that the city has to offer including checking out the latest bars and restaurants. She enjoys weekend trips down the coast to practice her surfing skills.
BERN WAISBERG
Bern has been as Veterinary Nurse for over 35 years. After working at Glenhuntly Road Veterinary Clinic for six years in the late 1980s – mid 1990s, Bern took a career break to work in the food industry with refugees and to have her two daughters Lilly and Freya.
She then returned to us in 2010. Her favourite part of the job is caring for our in-patients and her heart-warming and compassionate approach to all patients is clear to see.
She has a collection of Oriental and Burmese cats at home, including Louis and Winnie. They also have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Cooper – ‘Bern loves a Cav’ and a Labrador named Maggie.
Outside of work you will find Bern relaxing watching movies and enjoying cheese and wine.
